As expected for some time now, the Department announced the numbers of staff expected to be in the new Regional Centres by Line of Business. This was always going to be strange reading for all staff – both those who are unable to travel to the new centres and those who anticipate being in a centre.
What we have seen is some functions removed from the immediate area and therefore there will be a need for staff that are staying to, at the very least, re-train. In other cases we are seeing the dramatic reduction of the number of staff currently employed in a particular area and/or directorate group. Some of this is obviously predicated by the employer on the rosy future they predict for compliance in particular.
The RCTU finds some of this inexplicable and totally incomprehensible with the information we have and evolving situation as we actually know it. There remains a concerning disconnect between reality and the planned future. Not least that there will be at least one spending review before 2021 if not more due to the uncertainty in the political arena but also due to assumptions that many of the planned numbers are based upon.
We will be examining the numbers and implications in more detail over the coming week and reporting to members.
